David was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. He started working in the wine industry at a young age loading cases of wine into delivery vans at the local bottle shop.
After school he went to the University of Adelaide and studied Agricultural Business with a major in Wine Marketing, upon completion of his degree he started working for the Yalumba Wine Company in the Barossa Valley.
After 3 years at Yalumba Wines he spent a year working in California for Constellation Brands in a more production focused role. It was at this time that David decided to train to become a winemaker. He returned from the States and enrolled at Lincoln University in the South Island of New Zealand where he completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Winemaking and Viticulture.
From there he took a winemaking position with Giesen Wines in Marlborough with a focus on making Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. After 6 years here he moved to become, first winemaker and then, Group Winery Manager for the MVL Group who operate large contract processing facilities in Marlborough and Central Otago. It was during this time that David started the Cirro wine brand and started consultant winemaking for a number of other clients.
2012 saw another big change for David as he resigned his post at the MVL Group to concentrate solely on his own ventures. In China David has provided consultancy services in Yunnan Province and undertook a vintage as a winemaker in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. In New Zealand he continues to expand his consulting and wine businesses.
2013 will see David return to China for extended periods as he competes in the Ningxia Wine Challenge, participates in numerous wine expos and continues to provide winemaking consulting to the Yuhuang Chateau, Ningxia Province.
